29 December 2010: Lights on Temple Square.
For the first time in years, while we were in Utah for Christmas we headed up to Temple Square in Salt Lake City to admire the christmas lights. It's so incredibly pretty! And yes, I went for one of the more dramatic shots...

30 December 2010: We return home to graupel!!!
As a brief aside, I want to mention how much I loved flying down to Utah for Christmas this year... it's the first time we've done it since we moved to the Seattle area 15 years ago and I don't know why we hadn't tried it before. We got home to find everything covered in a layer of graupel! If you've never seen this stuff before, it really does look like someone took a gigantic bean bag, ripped it apart and spread the tiny styrofoam balls all over the place. Very funky!

31 December 2010: Roasting marshmallows.
It's not as easy to roast marshmallows as it was with the open fireplace we used to have, but I wouldn't trade the woodburning insert for anything... and we were still able to manage some quality roasting on New Year's Eve!

1 January 2011: Numfar loves Rackham.
rackham had picked up Numfar and was carrying her around the house when she decided to climb up on his shoulders for a better view. I quickly grabbed the camera to get a few shots and managed to capture this one, when she was demonstrating her thanks for the shoulder to perch on by headbutting his glasses.

2 January 2011: Christmas card collection.
And here they are... all the Christmas/Holiday cards we received this year (with the one from
enigmaticblues in a place of honor in the center as the first one to arrive). I just love getting cards, especially from my online friends. It's so neat to have the tangible connection to friends I've never met... it's sort of a way to reaffirm that you all actually exist and aren't just figments of my imagination! :-)

I must admit, this one was by far my favorite card of the year (although
tomte and
gidgiddoni's Seattle versus the Astro-Invaders card was a close second):

3 January 2011: Fifteen Pounds of M&Ms.
Yes, really. Every wonder what 15 pounds of M&Ms would look like? Wonder no longer! January 2nd marked Rackham's 15 year anniversary at his job... where there's a bit of a tradition to bring in a pound of M&Ms for every year of employment. Since he had the 2nd off for the New Year holiday (in fact, due to various reasons, he has only worked one January 2nd in those entire 15 years, and that was his very first day at the company), he took them in on the 3rd.

4 January 2011: Cauliflower and Roasted-Red Pepper Chowder.
We had a head of cauliflower sitting in the fridge from our weekly produce delivery, so I went online to find a good recipe for it and stumbled across this one on the Weight Watchers site... So good! And it's a HUGE portion (there's two cups of soup in that mug). If you take a look at the recipe, the only changes I made were to use evaporated goat's milk, fresh basil (since I had some leftover from earlier in the week) and chicken broth instead of vegetable broth (because that's what I had on hand). We'll definitely be doing this one again!
