So, not exactly being good about posting here daily, but I'm going to keep trying!

On Thursday I took the Webelos out on a short hike... just two miles, but we still managed to have a good time and pick up quite a bit of litter! Down toward the end of the trail, we came across some random rock art...

This weekend I've been over in Yakima with my mom, just sort of roaming around, exploring the area and spending time together (Yakima is right around halfway between where we each live, so it works well). Today we headed down to Toppenish to see the murals -- there are 73 of them painted on buildings scattered around the town, detailing the history of the area. Very cool! And I got some great photos... but the today's photo was actually taken out in White Swan, WA.

A few days ago, we moved the Xbox360 downstairs to where we have a slightly more solid floor -- playing with the Kinect works much better on a floor made from concrete slab than it does on something with floorboards. Or, at the very least, it's a bit less creaky. After we had it all set up, Rackham pulled out one of the banana chairs, sat down and started up the Xbox... which immediately brought Zoë from where she'd been sleeping ("Playing Xbox" is one of her favorite things). Except down here, there's no couch for her to cuddle up next to Rackham while he plays... and so she complained. I've never had a cat who could mutter and grouse quite so well as Zoë. Well, finding a solution to this problem was actually pretty easy... we just pulled up another chair!

On Sunday, I tried my hand at my first goat's milk based cheesecake... and it turned out pretty well!

Mmmmmm... Desserty goodness. )

Yesterday we were at Home Depot to get a few things and spotted a display filled with Meyer lemon trees. They were all flowering and several even had ripening fruit! Today I figured it would be worth getting a shot of it with fruit, since there's the strong possibility it'll never happen again, despite our best efforts.

On Friday evening, we finally got down to the Seattle Center to see the Harry Potter Exhibition! Sadly, they did not let us take photos of any of the props in the exhibit, but here's a shot (taken with my little pocket camera) of the Exhibition marquee at the Pacific Science Center.

And no visit to the Seattle Center is complete without a shot of the Space Needle!

My most favorite dessert of all time is crème brulée... unfortunately for me, it doesn't fit very well into my Weight Watchers plan (it can be done, but it generally takes a LOT of Points) and it's extremely heavy on the dairy... and until I can figure out how to make it with goat milk, it's completely off the menu. Thankfully, Alton Brown came to my rescue with the idea of Bananas Brulée!

Last week, the brakes on my car started letting out a horrid squealing sound whenever I tried using them... and since I was within 500 miles of needing the 90,000 mile service, we went ahead and took it in to get everything done at once. This meant that I was without my car for a few days (since they couldn't get us in until after the holiday) and had to drive Rackham's MINI Cooper!

A feeling of power... )

It was a Seattle Sunny day (meaning you can sort of make out the outline of the sun behind the grey clouds and there's nothing actively falling from the sky) in the upper 40s, so I decided to go out walking along the Sammamish River Trail.

Greyness everywhere... )

I've meant to take a photo of this for awhile... it's the sort of thing that seems almost inevitable when geeks get married.

I've posted a photo of Numfar in her "Force Field Box" before, but I just had to do this one as well... She's always so happy, sitting in her little invisible fortress. She'll crawl in there and watch everyone walking by, all the while just purring and purring.

As I mentioned yesterday, Rackham and our friend Mekle have started designing their own Geocoins. For anyone not familiar with these things, in Geocaching there are items that can be tracked out at Geocaching.com. They're meant to be placed in caches and found by cachers who then move them on to other caches, usually with a goal in mind (e.g. "visit Antarctica and return to a particular cache" or "visit caches in all 50 States" or something like that). These items can be Travelbugs, which usually have a trackable number on a dogtag meant to be attached to another item or they can be Geocoins, which can have quite elaborate designs. A lot of people actually collect Geocoins and will buy them to keep, not to send out into the world to bounce from cache to cache (and usually disappear eventually when someone decides to keep them instead of logging and moving them).

Between Rackham's new hobby of designing Geocoins and our efforts to clear out our clutter on eBay, we decided it would be worth investing in one of those small "photo studio" thingies.

Sadly, Tuesday night's snow didn't last...

Slush everywhere. )

Tuesday night, I came upstairs to see how much snow we'd gotten and spotted Zoë absolutely glued to the sliding glass doors -- she was looking up and acting exactly like she does when she's watching birds at the birdfeeder. Considering it was nighttime, I had to laugh at the idea that she was waiting for the birds to appear... and then Rackham pointed out that she was tracking the snowflakes. I grabbed the camera to snap a few shots and observed her for a bit... and sure enough, she was tracking the snowflakes the same way she watches television (she's an odd cat... loves sitting and watching TV, especially home improvement shows).

And about two hours later, the snow was still coming down...

Saturday brought an absolutely brilliant sunset. Taradaktyl put it best when she described it as: "Late afternoon clouds all turning pink and gold while the sky is going cobalt blue."

On Friday, I scoured the recipes on my computer to find something that would use the last of the basil before it started to wilt (and that hopefully contained ingredients I had on hand). I came up with the rather plainly descriptive Chicken with Fresh Tomato Sauce

On Monday, we headed out to do some shopping and ended up stopping by Bed Bath & Beyond in Orem. We got a bit of a surprise when we rounded a corner and were confronted by this:

Now that's a lot of stuff! )
