Christmas traditions!

So, no photos taken today, since we've pretty much spent the whole day at home cleaning (nothing particularly interesting about that, really), but since I didn't get anything posted yesterday... you're going to get Friday's photo today (along with a few bonus photos).
The British Pantry over in Redmond is a small grocery store that specializes in imported British goods... as well as having a bakery to sell British-style foods (pork pies and curry pasties and other yummy treats). They also have a restaurant and a pub... and every so often the restaurant will do special Dinners (a pre-selected menu usually themed to a holiday). Right now, obviously, they're doing Christmas Dinner, an event that's become a bit of a tradition for us.
Not for vegetarians...

The meal started with soup... I got the vegetable soup (which was quite good), while Rackham got the incredible lobster bisque (I rather needlessly avoided it, since it was made with cream... needlessly, because there ended up being enough dairy in the rest of the meal that it wouldn't have made a difference). Around this time, they also brought out our crackers and made jokes about not bringing us the rest of our food unless we wore our crowns. Like we needed an excuse!
I wish I'd gotten a photo of the "salad" which was a pear tart in puff pastry topped with field greens and a balsamic reduction. So pretty and so incredibly good!
The main course, as seen above, was a FREAKIN' HUGE slab of prime rib (no, I did not eat all of that), roasted potatoes, peas, broccoli, carrots and my favorite, Yorkshire Pudding. Yum!!! As you can see, I also had ginger beer... I must admit that I prefer Bundaberg, but Cock 'n Bull is tasty too!
For dessert we had Christmas Pudding!!

Um, so, I may have jumped the gun a bit on the pudding. I'd intended to take a photo, but they brought it out, I ate the whole thing and then realized it had completely slipped my mind. Well, it was incredibly good... served warm with custard. *happy sigh*
BTW, the tiny red thing off on the right was the toy top that came in my cracker. It may not look like much, but that sucker is really well designed. It'll spin quite nicely on the palm of my hand!
Afterward, we stopped by Tomte and Gidgiddoni's place... I just love their Christmas tree. Tomte's family is largely Scandinavian and the Christmas traditions abound.
Festive Scandinavian tree.

Honestly, I've thought about adopting some of these traditions in our household, even though neither of us have any recent Scandinavian ancestors (I have some Swedish ones waaaaaay back). I'm also not sure which of her traditions are Swedish and which are Dutch, but in the end, I'm not sure it matters. They're all fun!
My favorite of those traditions.

The tree is covered in these little heart shaped paper baskets, all with bits of candy in them for anyone who visits this time of year! I love this one!
